My Passion iS For Helping Others
Hello! I am Brittany Cephas, a Licensed Psychotherapist located in Columbia, Maryland. I provide mental health services to school-aged children and adolescents who are having a difficult time coping with social and emotional related issues. I am also a Professional School Counselor; and in this role, I have supported students in grades K– 8 through providing individual and group counseling services, psychoeducational supports, and classroom guidance lessons.
I have over 10 years of mental health experience in a variety of settings and with diverse populations. I am passionate about helping my clients thrive. My approach to treatment is unique because I use mindfulness, motivational interviewing, social skills training, creative expression, and movement that I tailor to the exclusive needs of my clients. My style is warm, creative, and fun!
Most of all, I enjoy building meaningful relationships with my clients; it is fundamental in the work that I do, and I believe it is instrumental to their success.
I am currently studying to receive my PHD in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have a Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Loyola University Maryland, a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Psychology from Coppin State University, and an Associates of Arts degree in General Studies from the Community College of Baltimore County. Growing Young Minds Counseling is a practice specifically designed to support school-aged children. We value building meaningful relationships with our clients, families, and community partners, as we believe our clients receive the highest benefits from treatment when they have a support system. Brittany Cephas, LCPC and CEO, a former professional school counselor, created GYMC because she noticed that though school counselors are an integral part of student support during their school-day, more mental health support was needed. After meeting with students about social-emotional related difficulties students were expressing that prevented them from being available for instruction, Brittany decided to resign from school counseling and instead extend clinical treatment to students/ school-aged children that would ultimately effectively address their issues. GYMC specializes in helping children and adolescents learn appropriate coping skills, and our services are extending in a manner that is engaging, creative, fun, and developmentally sound.
